Evaluation question 8 :Looking back at your preliminary task ,what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product ?

This is our rough cut video ...................

I had to use my rough cut video as my preliminary video was with another group .Because the day we filmed the preliminary none of the members of my group were in to film with me .From this i gained organizational skills and i also learnt that i need to have a back up plan just in case something goes wrong . Overall this helped me plan a bit better .

From the rough cut I learnt that we need more shots take make the storyline a bit clearer and also we need some close ups so that audience felt like they had inside knowledge of what might happen in the film next. I also learnt that there was certain effects needed to make it more interesting and so that we had space for titles .

Question number 7: What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product ?

This is a professional camera in which my group and i used to film our title sequence .
This is a tripod this was used to hold the camera still so that we was able to get a steady shot so that the film looked professional .
This lighting kit was really important as it helped create a certain mood and effect for our film especially in the last scene.

This video just shows me using final cut pro .This is the program that I used to edit my film .

Evaluation Question 4 & 5

Ways in which i would distribute my film .........................

 Through word of mouth .................

Posting it up on youtube .................

 posting it on vimeo ..............

Also by posting it on popular social networking sites such as ......................

Here is a student video i found on youtube with a large number of hits .........

This film was made at riverside community college and it has 5,454 views on youtube .i personally believe they achieved that number of views by telling there friends who told firends who told firends basically word of mouth . i think that word of mouth is a good form of broadcasting or advertising something especially among young people as they always have something to talk about with there friends especially on the latest things and new movies ,music viideos etc .

Evaluation Question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

In my thriller opening my female is quite conventional as she female is the victim this portrays women in a negative way .In addition to this men are also portrayed negatively as he is the antagonist . This is very similar to many thrillers as the gender roles are not reversed .

The fact that very often the women is the victim shows that she is very vulnerable and the fact that man is is very often the attacker shows the brutality and the physical power men have over women .However i think that a women could do exactly the same to a man maybe even worse .

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media ?

My thriller is very conventional because the female is the victim and she is lured into danger by a male .

This similar to silence of the lambs because the victims in the film are females .

This is a scene from my thriller which shows the female victim just like the female victim in silence of the lambs .

This scene in silence of the lambs shows the female victim helping the male stalker .

This imitates the scene above where the victim and the male stalker are in conversation and she is being quite helpful .

This shows the male stalker stalking his female victim ready for an attack .

This again shows the similarity between my thriller and silence of the lambs .This is a shot of a male stalker stalking his female victim waiting for the right moment to attack her .

This scene from silences of the lamb shows the male stalker attacking his female victim.

This scene from my thriller shows the female victim been attacked and taken into a basement .

This is a scene from scream 4 which is set in a school and based on a group of teenagers who are all friend. This shows that thrillers, horrors and slashers can be set in schools ,colleges or educational institutions . This is similar to my thriller because it is set in an educational institution and majority of the victims are females with a male stalker . This shows that the target audience for scream and for my thriller is young people / teenagers

Evaluaion Question Three : Who would be my target audience for my media product ?

My Target audience would be a group of teenagers aged 16-19 they would be from different ethnic backgrounds. The female in my target audience would be interested in the fashion and listen to music by artists like Rihanna, Chipmunk and Trey Songz. The males of my target audience would be interested in Football and listen to music by Skepta,Giggs and Rhianna .Both of the genders in my target audience would like to drink and go raving,However they would dislike gang violence .Moreover majority of my audience would have a blackberry smart phone and Ipod. They would enjoy socializing and spending a lot of time with friends they go to college and study a levels or be in their first year of university.

Final Edit The Basement

WE'VE FINALLY FINISHED OUR FINAL THRILLER OPENING!!!!!!

As a group, we struggled a lot to get to this stage. At first we were put into a group with 2 other students which dropped out from the course. Then we were put into another group which consisted of 4 students (myself, Netitia, Lorenzo and Muazzin), unfortunately, Muazzin had formed his own group and filmed his own movie. So in this case we had to use our Rough cut for our Final Cut as well, because we didn't have enough time to make another movie.

We hope that this film is also as enjoyable as the others even though we couldn't spent as much time as we could have to edit it!!

Who Watches Thrillers?

I was very interested as to who watches thrillers and who my possible target audience could be so i did some research to find out .

What i found out ............

that thrillers have a very mixed audience and that men and women both like thrillers because the fact that it always keeps its audience on its toes and because of the constant cliff hangers .

Type Of Shots

Shots in movies are very important as they are what we see, they are also important because they help tell the story and give the audience an insight to what the other charcters inthe film may not be aware of .The types of shots my group and i have put in our thriller opening are as follows ............

Extreme Close Up
Extreme Close Up
Mid Shot
Mid Shot
Medium Close Up
Medium Close Up
Close Up
Close Up

With these shots we will try to create suspense and tension causing our audience to be left wanting to know more .

The Effect We Want It To Have ?

We want our thriller to make the audience fell very involved and as if they know what is going to happend but just as they think one thing something different is going to happen which will shock the audience leaving them wanting to know more .And then as questions form in the audiences minds they will slowly be answeared as things are uncovered in throught the opening sequence .

difficulties with editing

When it came to editing for my group they became kind of lazy,so i took control and did it by myself however this was not easy ! at all as i had to figure things out that i had previously forgot so i found doing certain things like cutting a clip in half quite difficult but however i over came it and became a master at cuttin clips in half. more over as i got over one obsticle there was another one soon approaching as things became difficult like adding titles into the movie sequence .I found this difficult because i had to use efects such as fadein and fade out to makesure that there wa spaces for the tiltes and that they where not to long at the same time i had to makesure that the sequence made sense and didnt confuse the audience this involved watching the same clips and sequences more than it got a bit annoying but i still carried on .once i put all the clips in order and added titles i watched the whole thing more than five times to makesure that it made sense and had the effect on the audience that we wanted it to, this part of editing was very boring bt however the hard work paid off and the title sequence looked really good all that was left was to add the msic which i could not do so i left it to another meber of my grop called lorenzo he made the soundtrack n i gave him my opinion and told him when i thought he should change things and where he should add things, woring as team really paid off  when it came to makeing the soundtrack as we used both our ideas to make a really good soundtrack when added it to our movie sequence we found that it flowed really well and it also inspired us to change certain clips in our film to make it better and they worked really well so editing was hard but the hard work paid off in the end !

What I enjoyed most when making my thriller

What i enjoyed most about makeing my thriller was the chance to use the cameras and the chance the act .this was an enjoyable experience to me because i ahve never used a professional camera before and i didnt think that my acting skills were very god but as i have found im quite good at this act thing .Moreover i also enjoyed exploring different things and testing out diffferent ideas from different members of my group . But i must say that the best part was when something funny happend like when i was meant have a serious face and i would just burst out laughing or when i had to flirt on camera with another meber of my group who didnt even like in that way .But overall i would have to say that this experience was really fun and helped me get closer to other media students not just in my class but in other classes aswell .

Thriller music

I looked at different thriller music, so I could get a better understanding on how thrillers creates suspense through sound.

Sound in a Thriller and it is important

The best way to make a thriller have more suspense is to add music to create the atmosphere as it helps the audience that something bad might be about to happen. But in order to be able add music to a film you have to be able to use a special programe called soundtrack pro .In one of my media lesson i was taught how to use soundtrack pro and was shown that is has a range of sound which can create the perfect atmosphere in a thriller giving the audience the best experience .

Sound effects

These different sound effects creates tension within the audience as the load jolt of sound makes the audience jump as it was unexpected.

Denotation and Connotation

We learnt about denotation and connotation and looked a number of images to understand what this means.

Denotation:
What an image actually shows and what is immediately  apparent as opposed to the assumptions that an individual reader may make about it.

Connotation:
The meaning of a sign that is arrived at through the culture experience a ready brings to it.

Thriller Planning...

This week we finally started planning for our own thriller film. This was quite a scary and exciting , this was our chance to show what we have learnt .However it also scary because you have to rely on people that you have not known for very long and this could come as a problem but however we will try to work hard as a group to cooperate with each other and put in as much work as we most possibly can .
To help us plan our thriller film  our teacher Bernard gave us each a A3 piece of paper with seven boxes on the sheet.
The boxes consisted of what we would have to plan to make our film successful;
  • Locations to be used,
  • Opening that have inspired you and why
  • Which thriller Sub Genre will you produce
  • Opening structure to be followed
  • Key Props to be used
  • Intertexual refrences
  • Fonts and font effects to be used
this sheet is very helpful as it helps us to express our ideas and have them on paper so that when we go to film we have a rough idea of what each memebr in the group wants so we can use all the ideas so that every has had an imput .However we may need to change some ideas as they maybe to adventurous or difficult to film so we will have to keep that in mind the main thing we need to keep in mind is a time schedule so that we have enough to edit and so that we finish on time .

Things to consider when making a film...

When planning a film there are many things you need to take into consideration;
  • Lighting
  • Good Location -with space
  • Noise level
  • Can you get really good shots?
  • Can you get interesting angles?
All of these points are  important , because if its too dark then audience wont be able to see what is going on and if you dont where you are going to film then you cant plan time your are goin to film and this will lead to you not knowing whether you will get really good shots or intresting angles so the most important thing that we need to take in consideration is the location because that ties up all the losse ends and brings everything together .

Intertextuality from the Stepfather

the stepfather using a
component of the shaving set
in the opening sequence of the stepfather we can see he has set out his shaving set as he is about to shave, this may give the audience the impression that we are in equilibrium.

However other members of the audiences may take his excellent organisation and neatness as a disorder, over compulsive disorder. This emphasises that he may kill people for the pleasure and just as a means to put everything in equilibrium for him.

I believe this scene is ambiguous because it has more than one meaning to it. This is an aspect which me and my group find really interesting and will hopefully be using this idea in the final project. This may be called Intertextuality, because we are borrowing ideas from other films.
