Question 8: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from it to the full product?

For our preliminary task we had to do a short clip of a guy meeting another guy, but it looked very suspicious along the way. This was very amateur compared to the thriller, but we was gien a short space of time + we just got use of using the camera and tripod, alot of errors were made which include one of my group members not even saving that prelim as a final product :/

A main difference between the prelim and actual thriller is that they was not the same genre, also the fact that the prelim was very vague and it did not have a proper opening title sequence it was very much improvised. For the prelim we added in music by a famous rapper but with the Thriller and copyrights we pretty much had to make our own beat.

Our prelim did not include many shots and effects it involved alot of straight cuts, there was no title at the beginning. But with the Thriller a title had been added along with credits, in doing that it made the Thriller have that certified professional look and obviously by then our knowledge of editing and filming expanded.


Our locations in our prelim was set in the college as well as the Thriller but with the Thriller we used the basement area. Personally this easy a disadvantage because i think the set could of been filmed some where better.

The shots that we took in the prelim was very unsteady it shook alot at times, we kinda thought at the time we was too good to use a tripod. In the Thriller we had an effect of the camera being the actual person so the audience would think their actually involved.

 

With the costumes there was not much difference in it because we were in a college so it wasn't like the college had a school uniform. 

Technology that we was to add everything for the final cut was the Apple Mac alongside the programmes such as Final Cut Pro/Sound Track Pro.  To be honest I only knew how to use the basics but then towards the end with a little help of my teacher I kinda knew what I was doing.

 

The editing and effects we used in the Prelim did not compare to the amount of things that we used in the Thriller. Instead of having straight cuts that we had in the Prelim which used alot of fades throughout the thriller to make the transitions more smoother and when that took place that's when we placed the credits, we done this by using Final Cut pro and when we done the prelim I had no idea of putting in effects, i thought it was a simple drag & play situation. The two main effects we used was the split screen view & the slow motion effect towards the end of the film.

As a whole this was a mind blowing experience, it really did put me in a directors seat and made me see hwo really hard it is, the fact that we done an open sequence and it took us a few weeks to complete made me just dread on how these directors spend months even years like the film Avatar

Question 4&5: What kind of media instituation might describe your media product and why? How will you attract/address your audience?

Hey Jumper
'Hey Jumper' was done by some college students and it even won an award. If this wanted to get distributed even more, perhaps get it recognized but the professionals the internet is on the best way to get it out there.

 Youtube is the obvious and most vital one because even the the big stars you see on T.V started off by putting video's on youtube and getting themselves recognized. And not to mention the two main social  networking sites :


Just for the sake of distributing their product giving out copies out on DVD is a really good method, it is also smart to give them out for free. Also if it's been given out for free this enables it to get around more so there is no hassle. Due to it being a low budget film you may be able to get a cinematic screening to show your product to people maybe even a director. In my groups case our video has been posted up on Vimeo and of course our own blog so that our peers are able to view it, it all relates in the same way because we also have it being shown to our target audience.

Question 7: What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

These video tutorials that I put up show the basics on what I had to use when putting together our project, when we first started using Livetype/final cut I found it very difficult. What was difficult about using these was to get the timing right relating to whats going on in the film, so I think my listening skills and judgment has improved. At first it was very frustrating due to me trying to import my final cut project to soundtrack pro so they could merge together.

 

           

Here is a basic tutorial on how to navigate the camera, out of the stuff that I have used I think that using the came was the most challenging, to get all the focus and zoom on point is actually harder than it looks.  The amount of buttons that were layed out on the camera at first was very confusing, it felt as if that these buttons were used to navigate something else. But with the help of the teachers, I steadily got there. I also think soundtrack pro played one of the most vital parts in this project, because without sound there is absolutely nothing and thanks to one my good friends that studies Music Technology he was able to help me with a beat and I also think having the beat running through your head whilst making the film also can help with when deciding if the music should cut it or not.

Question 3: Who would be the target audience for your media product?

Malachi, aged 18  is a part-time worker in selfridges and is in his A2 year of college, he loves shopping, his best brand is Ralph Lauren. He has a passion for dancing and one of his many inspirations is Chris Brown. Due to him being such a player he has a Blackberry so he can chat to all the females he knows on Blackberry Messenger. He tends to socialize alot in Facebook so he can out his latest pictures and videos up.



My target audience is aimed at the range of 15 - 20, the reason why I started the age limit from 15 is because most thriller movies are 15. Most teenagers of these ages are interested in fashion, for example 'Ralph Lauren' is very popular to the young generation and also blackberry. I think Blackberry would help boost my media product due to a lot of teenager being on it and news/gossip can get around very quick, not to mention social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Chris Brown is one of the many young successful artists and my target audience listen's to a lot of music so I think even having a soundtrack done by an artist like him would be a very good idea.

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use,develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media ?

My thriller is very conventional because the female is the victim and she is lured into danger by a male .

This similar to silence of the lambs because the victims in the film are females .

This is a scene from scream 4 which is set in a school and based on a group of teenagers who are all friend. This shows that thrillers,horrors and slashers can be set in schools ,colleges or educational institutions . This is similar to my thriller because it is set in an educational institution and majority of the victims are females with a male stalker . This shows that the target audience for scream and for my thriller is young people / teenagers

Question 2: Does my media represent particular social group

This shot is very iconic because it's been used in many films, you get sense of something bad is about to go down and the person that is stalking tends to be the villain.  Also the fact that his whole body is not showing brings the thought that he may having something to hide, even the disappearance of him when the camera returns. The movie that I got the inspiration from was 'Scream 3'

An aspect from mis en scene that was shown here was the lighting, the lighting and shade  was useful because half of the his face is darker than the other, like Scream. This helps the depth of the suspension build up more. I think the only difference between these two is the fact that he ask a mask it makes it more frightful.

Question 6: Audience feedback and comment

Instead of us writing long paragraphs on the feedback our teacher gave us a website called 'Wordle' so we can just add in the key words. I know your thinking the bigger the size of the word the more people said the same thing but that's just due to the order we put it in. Lighting was a main one though because when we filmed in the basement you could hardly see faces, it just looked like a shadow. Don't get me wrong these are not all feedbacks on what was wrong with it but also what was good about it, like the the word tension, suspense has been said. I think that the reason why the tension was done well is because of the soundtrack that went with it.
